Hi {{ first name | Raleigh Lover}}!
This week was all about food — too much of it — but all so good! Honestly, it’s times like these I feel a wave of gratitude for being gluten free… it means I can say no (without guilt) to some of the endless, drool-worthy treats that cross my path.
We kicked things off with the NC State Fair Media Preview, sampling some of this year’s wild new foods. My favorite? The Carolina Shawarma Burger from local favorite Neomonde — absolutely incredible! I’m officially campaigning for it to become a permanent menu item.
We also finally made it to Anthony’s La Piazza in Downtown Raleigh for a taste of Sicily right here at home. (Spoiler alert: it lived up to the hype … and we’ve got a delicious giveaway coming your way next week!)
Then last night, we stepped into another world — quite literally — at Boatman Spirit Co. in Seaboard Station. It feels like being transported to the underworld in the best way possible: moody, mystical, and full of life. The crafted cocktails are works of art, and the Mediterranean menu, inspired by co-owner George’s Palestinian mother, is exceptional.
Between bites, we’ve been exploring the Mordecai neighborhood more deeply as we work on our upcoming community guide; it’s such a charming pocket of Raleigh with layers of history and heart.
And tonight? We’re braving the NC State Fair! We weren’t planning to go this year, but since we’re dropping our eldest off at the Billie Eilish concert, we figured… why not lean into the chaos and enjoy the magic? It’ll be our first time seeing the fair at night — finally, those fireworks! 🎆
Got any tips for nighttime fair fun? Send them our way. We’re all ears (and maybe a little funnel-cake curious).
