Hi Raleigh Lover!
The NC State Fair has started! We visited yesterday afternoon as Craig was a judge for the home chef tailgating brunch competition. While he overindulged on food samples, I wandered leisurely around the fair soaking up the vibes. Thursday is a great day to go y’all - crowds were not intense at all! If you’re thinking of going you need to read our guide with lots of tips for making it a great day out!
We visited the media day for the NC State Fair on Monday and got to experience the new foods for this year. Let’s just say I’m grateful I’m gluten free and can’t try most of them!! Not that they aren’t good, they’re just mostly carb and sugar heavy! We shared the winners here and a few more notables here.
We hit a couple of snags with our new email service provider this week, that we’re working to fix. If you click one of the links in our email and it goes to a page not found, it’s an issue on the email end, not our website. You can use the search bar at the top to find the post I was trying to direct you to!!
You’ll also notice a new ad at the top of this email. We’ll be incorporating ad partners (not too many) and appreciate your support. It helps us continue to provide free content to you! Without our partners we’d have to close the doors on This is Raleigh! And we know we help too many of y’all to do that!
Thanks again for your patience as we migrate! Feel free to reply with any feedback on the new design and inclusions and anything else helpful you’d like us to share with you!
Have a great weekend!
Caroline
P.S. I am looking forward to slightly warmer weather next week. It’s been too cold too early!
💓FAVORITE FINDS
The Ritz Raleigh - I finally experienced this music venue in Raleigh and LOVED it! Reminded me of my days watching live music as a late teen in music venues around Sydney. Even more so since we saw the band Inhaler. If you don’t know them and you LOVE U2, you’ll want to know them. It’s Bono’s son’s band and he sounds just like his dad - and has his rock swagger. Their music is throwback to 90s rock. You can see it here.
Thriving Women’s Conference at Raleigh Union Station. Firstly, what a unique venue for an event! Secondly, such a great conference for empowering women and helping you believe in your own gifts.
Sassool We had a delicious catered meal from Sassool at the conference - fresh, tasty, and almost all choices were gluten free! Their restaurant is a local’s favorite.
RGF Champagne Bar in Cary was a hoot celebrating my birthday with friends. None of them had been before and they loved it. If you haven’t, this is your sign! Take your RBF photos! (ours is the one above!)
Misty Mayhem, a very talented local singer who was at RBF. She’s opening for River Mystic at Downtown Cary Park’s live music event on Saturday night (a great free event!)
Ken Smith, anchor and reproter from WRAL! So fun meeting him this week. He’s a fun guy!
Brianna from Raleigh Food Trap - we finally got to meet in real life and she’s wonderful!

⭐DID YOU HEAR?
The final vote on Red Hat was given. It’s a YES! So happy this venue is staying downtown.
Early voting has started for Raleigh! Be sure to have you voice heard! We love Dr Terrance Ruth and think he’s great for Raleigh. He’s a personal friend of ours so are happy to recommend him and can attest to his character.
Our friend Marcus Ginyard is hosting Now Serving Food + Wine event in Smoky Hollows on Saturday. This is a celebration of the Triangle culinary landscape with proceeds benefiting Now Serving's community meal program.
Speaking of Wine, there are TWO wine festivals on Saturday. The International Wine Festival on Fayetteville St and the NC Wine Festival at Koka Booth and the Kay Yow Wine Walk is on at North Hills
Speaking of Smoky Hollow, it’s been announced that Barrio Tacos will open a location here early next year.
Village Tavern in North Hills will be open to the public on October 21. Craig enjoyed a preview meal there this week.
Diced has opened a location on Fayetteville St.
Starting mid-November, there will be free two-hour at parking decks along Wilmington Street, and one behind City Hall between Hargett and Morgan Streets. This will be so great for residents and local businesses!
