Sixty Vines just opened their rooftop, and here's why we'll be back
We were guests at the media preview on Friday night. All opinions are our own, as always.
If you've eaten at Sixty Vines downstairs, you already know the food, wine, and service are excellent. So, when we got the invite to preview their new rooftop patio, we said yes before reading the rest of the email.
It did not disappoint.
The space is beautifully decorated, with great urban views over Raleigh, the same exceptional menu and wine list, and the same level of service you get downstairs. It's the kind of patio you'll want to settle into for hours, not the kind you check off your list and leave.
The value is the part I keep telling people about
Their pork chop is just as good, if not better, than ones I've had elsewhere for $35 to $45. Theirs is $24. Sixty Vines is very intentional about keeping prices lower, and that intentionality runs through everything they do. The name itself represents 60 wines on tap, which is better for the environment and your wallet at the same time.
In a city where dinner out keeps creeping toward "special occasion" pricing, that matters.
The people make it ours
I have to shout out Veronica, who served us last time too and somehow remembered us. She's fantastic. We held her up a little too long chatting about her recent trips to Japan and Thailand, our old home. We lose track of time when travel comes up.
And then there's Shane, our favorite bartender in Raleigh. We've known him from previous restaurants and were thrilled to see him at Sixty Vines when it opened. He's the most joyful person and treats us like a long lost friend every time he sees us. He blew me away when we arrived by naming the chardonnay I like. I didn't even remember what it was. And he remembered Craig's preferred bourbon.
Little things like that make a big difference. That's the kind of place Sixty Vines is. The food and the rooftop will get you in. The people will make you a regular.
The details
Sixty Vines is in the Main District of North Hills. The rooftop is now open. Reservations recommended, especially on weekends. The patio will be closed for Mother’s Day however.

From Somewhere Else

Since this is our Wednesday travel segment, and it’s bike month, I thought I would share one of our favorite bike adventures and showcase the fun you can have immersing yourself in nature - and in an easy way!
You may think a 15-mile bike ride through the Bitterroot Mountains in Idaho does not sound easy or fun at all, but you’ll be mistaken! Why? Because it’s all downhill!!
You can do your mad self if you like and bike back up it - perhaps hire an ebike, but most jump on the bus to return back up the mountains.
The Route of the Hiwatha is a stunning ride following the former Milwaukee Railway Company railroad path. The path goes through 10 tunnels and 7 trestle bridges. Bring your sweatshirt and flashlight as one of those tunnels s 1.7 miles long, a constant 47 degrees year round and pith black and prone to splashing mud all over you. It was a blast and a memory we share often.
