White Oak Creek Greenway

Marvelous May is on the way, {{first_name}}

May snuck up on me. One minute I'm still in a jacket, the next I'm looking at a calendar that's absolutely packed — and I am here for it.

This month has a little bit of everything. It's National Bike Month, so dust off those wheels (Raleigh is genuinely a great cycling city and this is the month to prove it). Mother's Day is coming up fast — we have ideas for that. And Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial starter pistol for summer.

On my end, May is going to move quickly. Craig and I are exploring a new destination in Virginia, there's an Oak Island getaway on the horizon, and I'm heading to Salt Lake City for a leaders retreat with Your Limitless Adventures — the team I'll be guiding on a trip to Morocco this October. The founder, Christina, is one of my closest friends. We talk several times a week on FaceTime and have somehow only ever met in person once. I cannot wait to actually sit across from her for a few days and have real conversations that don't involve a phone screen between us.

But before any of that — May in Raleigh deserves your full attention.

We've put together your complete May Event Guide so you don't miss a thing. Festivals, outdoor events, family-friendly fun, and a few things that will genuinely surprise you.

May is always one of my favorite months in this city. Go make the most of it.

From Somewhere Else

I told you all about my daughter’s dreams to hike Half dome in Yosemite - we did not the lottery permit but are still going to go. A few people we have spoken to recently have not heard of Yosemite!

It is one of the USA’s best national parks. The photo above of the waterfalls teeming into the valley is one of my favorite views in the USA. Best seen in May/ June when the waterfalls are full of snow run off (many of them dry up by August.)

Apart from it being the land of waterfalls, it is the land of rock climbers attempting to scale El Capitan and Half Dome. it’s also a hiker’s paradise with many trails from easy to hard, valleys to bike through, and sequoia trees to hug! 👇
