This Week in Raleigh: State Capitol Tree Lighting, Holiday Shows, Parades

Hope you’re all cozy inside and the kids aren’t driving you crazy! I feel it’s a little Chicken Little to cancel schools today - they could have done early release at least. But, alas, this is life in Raleigh, North Carolina!

My sister (in Australia) follows several Raleigh accounts and is always sending me photos. Sometimes she breaks the news of floodings to me!! This week, she sent me a photo of Snowmaggedon back in 2005. And I responded, “I think I’m in that traffic jam!”

I remember it well. Early release from South Smithfield Elementary (where I taught) and caught in the debacle for three hours. It was my first real snow experience and my first time driving in snow. I thought I’d take a short cut through an apartment complex and ended up sliding down a small hill. It was terrifying! I obviously recovered and learned quickly about the perils of winter driving. So, stay safe out there and we’ll wait to see what those snow flurries do!

We’ve got another big week in Raleigh with parades, tree lightings, markets, and open houses. Make it a festive week! We have lots to share with you from last week.
