This Week in Raleigh: Hopscotch, Oktoberfest, First Friday, Ambassador to the US

Hello September! Seems like we’re having our first Fall of the season. I wonder how many more will come before it settles in for two weeks! It will make temperature so pleasant for all the outdoor fun this weekend with the Hopscotch Festival, First Friday, Oktoberfest celebrations begin, and many other outdoor concerts and markets!

Well if we needed a bigger sign to bring back the podcast, we sure got one this week with a crazy, unexpected opportunity that arrived in our inbox.

This week, former Australian prime minister, and now Ambassador to the US, Kevin Rudd will be in Raleigh researching Australian businesses investing in North Carolina. We've been asked to interview him on our podcast for an hour!

It will be a light-hearted discussion on what brings him to NC, the job of an ambassador, as well as the US-Australia relationship in terms of people to people and business relationship, and of course some Aussie humor thrown in!

We have also been invited to the NC Governor's mansion for the formal welcome reception, where we'll host a fun social media video with Governor Josh Stein & Ambassador Kevin Rudd on Australian vs North Carolina slang.

Please reply with any NC slang words you know. We have endless Aussie slang words that are quite tricky to work out the meaning of, but I can’t seem to find a lot of NC ones that Ambassador Rudd might be challenged by.

P.S. I must say I’m equally parts nervous and excited and can’t wait for Hopscotch to start so it will all be over and I can celebrate such an out-of-my-comfort-zone experience.
